Clayton EMA Earns Top Honor as Georgia EMA of the Year

(Clayton County, Ga)- Clayton County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Office earns Georgia’s 2023 EMA of the Year award from the Emergency Management Association of Georgia (EMAG). The prestigious award was presented to Director of the Office of Emergency Management Ryan Morrison during the association’s 65th annual meeting.

Clayton County’s EMA Office submitted impressive projects that included grant funding totaling more than 10 million dollars in 2023. The group also worked diligently to train, educate, and empower county residents by presenting over 30 specialized disaster preparedness training classes.

“I firmly believe that our agency’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and community-centric approach to serving the residents of Clayton County made us the best recipients for the award,” said Director of Emergency Management Agency Ryan Morrison.

In December of 2022, the county’s EMA fulfilled its mission to serve the citizens of the county during a cold weather crisis that led to frozen or burst pipes during the holiday season. While working with community stakeholders, the team was able to quickly assess the situation and develop a comprehensive response plan that brought a sound resolution.

“I am very proud of our EMA team,” added Morrison. “I believe the award serves as an example of the team’s hard work and dedication to effectively respond to the county and its residents when called upon. The achievements of our agency that were presented to the awards committee serve as just a small testament to the unwavering dedication and professionalism of the Clayton County Emergency Management Agency.”

The EMAG is an association of professionals serving its members by promoting professional development, providing networking opportunities, and serving as an advocate for the profession of Emergency Management. They also assist members in their efforts to save lives and protect property from the effects of natural and medical disasters.
